Gamer score is my drive to play video games. I love hearing that sound because it's so reassuring that I am doing good video games. It's fun to compete with my friends too. "Hey how much gamer score do you have now?" or "I bet I have more gamer score than you have now." I love gamer score, and I am pretty sure that people have some opposing views on gamer score, for example, people think that achievements ruin video games, but I totally disagree with that. I think that gamer score adds a lot to playing video games. It's just another element for people to enjoy. For example, the X box has the X box market place is something that people enjoy having. I think that gamer score is similar to that. It's just another thing for people to enjoy and discuss with their friends. And it's also a good reason to exchange games in with Game Stop or with your friends to get a higher gamer score. I just wish they had gamer score on computers, play station, or any other system you can play games on because I don't have the desire to play games without achievements. I know it sounds kind of pathetic, but that is just the way it is. I know people who are exactly like me and I know some people who absolutely hate gamer score and the whole achievement aspect. In my opinion, I can't get enough of achievements. That sound is amazing!

I think the gamerscore feature is a cool add-on to Xbox Live, but then again, maybe not so much. If gamerscore is going to make people want to play a game over again ONLY because of its goals and achievements, then I think that's pretty sad. Seriously, many games are re-playable without gamerscore... or well, apparently used to be. They have many secrets for you to discover even after you've beaten the game, and some also keep track of your game progress. All you have to do is compare the "game completion percentage" with your friends and, ta-da, you have competition between yourselves. Not being able to play Playstation or computer games without the gamerscore feature must be tough, because there's a lot of good games out there not available on the Xbox 360. Like I said, gamerscore is nice, but to make it have to be there to play video games, you're quite right, it is pathetic.
I think that gamerscore and achievements is one of the more attractive features of Xbox Live. Some games, like an extremely linear FPS, I would never dream of playing through more than once or twice. The achievements give me a reason to play through a game I usually wouldn't play through more than once or twice. Now I have to play through and have a certain hit percentage, or more armor than health lost, etc. It challenges the gamer to do things they probably wouldn't do otherwise, thus adding to the longevity of a game. The idea that your friends can see that you've done these things also adds to the competition element of video games, just like high scores on Pacman or Guitar Hero do.
